Though Bal Ganagadhar Tilak was intellectual but he was great freedom fighter also. In 1883 he started Ganesh Utsave with a view to gather people so that through the gathering cultural activities could be developed for constructive and creative work and people could be awoke to fight for freedom.
With laps of time this Utsave has taken a grisly and grim shape. Now there is nothing like such Utsav but all offensive like intoxication forcible collection of Chanda (contribution), offences against person and property and similar activities are being conducted in the name of such festival.
Pollution is another problem with such Ganesh Utsave and Durga Utsav. Clay idols are being prepared and they are immersed in to river or seawater and there by sever pollution problems occur through out the year.
During Divali festival season people do Pooja of Portrait of Laxmiji and do not prepare idols of the goddess. On the same line why we cannot adopt such system to save the nation from pollution and obnoxious activities? People should give second thought to it and the social activists should come forward to cultivate and impress about such a modification and change the mentality of the general public.
